Build a Weekly Learning Plan That Actually Holds — OpenSchooler
Principles first
- Fewer subjects, deeper: 2 core blocks a day beat 6 rushed ones.
- Buffers: leave one empty slot daily; life will fill it.
- Review beats coverage: Friday revisits the week’s work instead of adding more.
The 5-day template
| Slot | Mon–Thu | Friday |
|---|---|---|
| Morning block 1 (45–60 min) | Maths | Maths review + game |
| Morning block 2 (45–60 min) | Reading / language | Writing + read-aloud |
| Afternoon (30–45 min) | Science / social studies rotation | Weekly review with parent |
| Buffer | Catch-up or project | Free reading |
Adjust minutes by age: ages 6–8 need shorter blocks (20–30 min); teens can hold 60–90 min.

The Friday review (20 minutes)
- What improved this week? Name one thing each.
- What felt too hard or too easy? Adjust minutes, not goals.
- What is the single focus for next week?
